Chris with 7th District residents

Chris speaking with 7th District residents.

Focus on our Neighborhoods — We need a Senator who’s going to focus on representing neighbors, not corporate lobbyists. Chris Larson is a strong advocate for public financing of state elections to prevent outside special interests from taking over any legislator’s priorities in the future.

Jobs — Chris Larson believes that creating jobs for Wisconsin residents needs to be the highest priority of state government. As County Supervisor, Chris has been working with business and local government leaders in the area for the last 2 years to attract new businesses and jobs toward our low-cost, high-growth airport.

Chris recently authored and passed legislation for Milwaukee County to formally join the Aerotropolis effort that now has 8 municipal governments, the airport, and the buy-in from local businesses.  Read more about Chris’ efforts:

Clean Energy Jobs for Tomorrow — Chris Larson supports the Clean Energy Jobs Act. This legislation would create over 15,000 new jobs by supporting clean energy businesses. Many of these jobs would be in construction as energy-efficient homes and stores are built and new solar panels and wind turbines are added.  The Act would also keep $2 billion more in our state’s economy at a time when it is most needed.  Clean Energy has been attacked by polluting interests that fund their own false studies to preserve the status quo.  Read the facts about the Clean Energy Jobs Act here: http://www.wisgov.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=18757

Hoan Bridge — The Hoan Bridge is a vital link between southern Milwaukee, the south suburbs and downtown. Keeping this bridge safe and roadworthy has to be a high priority. Chris Larson is a co-founder of the Coalition to Save the Hoan Bridge, which has over 8,000 members. This Coalition was successful in persuading the state to begin repaving the bridge, a project that will start in October. As your state senator, Chris will fight to complete all of the repairs needed to maintain the Hoan Bridge, especially focused on re-decking the bridge so that we won’t need to rely on nets underneath to catch debris.

Education — Funding education is imperative for Wisconsin to remain economically competitive in the 21st century. The first priority is to protect Milwaukee area schools from a state funding formula that sends $57 million in taxes to schools in other parts of the state. Chris will fight for an equitable funding formula that will bring that $57 million back to Milwaukee area schools, where it’s so badly needed.

Parks & Transit — Chris has long been an advocate for our Milwaukee County Parks and our essential public transit system. The parks are part of our region’s legacy, and good public transit promotes economic development by encouraging businesses to settle in the region, reducing traffic congestion, and improving the quality of our air. As founder of the Quality of Life Alliance, Chris has fought to secure dedicated revenue streams so that funding for parks and transit could remain stable while reducing our property taxes. As Milwaukee County Supervisor, Chris has championed our public transportation system and prevented further funding cuts and fare hikes so that neighbors can continue to get to work and school. After passing a county-wide advisory referendum, the state has failed to finish the job, putting funding of our parks and transit in danger. As state senator, Chris will work to secure funding for parks, transit, and reduce property taxes.
